Spiced Apple Cider

Adapted from a recipe by Karen Bates of The Apple Farm

Yields 4-6 servings
INGREDIENTS:
½ gallon fresh apple juice
1 cinnamon stick
2-4 cloves
a few thin slices of orange (don’t leave in for too long or it will impart a bitter flavor)
a few thin slices of ginger
a bit of fresh nutmeg (optional)
a few peppercorns (optional)

PREPARATION:

Combine all ingredients. Adjust the recipe to your taste. Simmer for a few minutes or up to an hour or more. The flavors will get stronger the longer you simmer it. To serve, pour into cups through a strainer. Garnish with slices of orange (blood orange looks particularly nice), if desired. Serve hot.
