FARM HISTORY/PHILOSOPHY: Peter Chan immigrated to California from Hong Kong, China, in the 1970s. He had long dreamed of starting a flower farm, and realized his dream in the mid-1980s when he leased some land and started Peter Chan Nursery. In the mid-1990s, the rest of Peter’s family immigrated to the states. Peter passed away in 2005, and his wife and son have carried on the business (now called just Chan’s Nursery), growing, arranging and selling over 20 different kinds of flowers.

The Chans are proud to bring a fresh, local product to their customers.

SOIL: To maintain soil fertility, the Chans use synthetic fertilizers and mulch, and incorporate raw plant material into their soil.

PESTS: To manage pests, they rotate crops and use synthetic pesticides.

CERTIFICATIONS: None

FUN FACT: The Chans specialize in Chrysanthemums, a kind of flower that is thought to have been cultivated as an herb in China since the 15th century BC.
