PRODUCTS: Almonds, walnuts, and pomegranates.

FARMLAND: 70 acres in Woodland (Yolo County), approximately 82 miles to the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market.

FARM HISTORY/PHILOSOPHY: According to Sally, "Personal care for each tree and the careful processing on the farm by us" is what makes her products special. She attributes the quality of the nuts to these factors as well as the "sustainable climate" and the fact that "Northern California doesn't require transportation of water," and that there is "enough cold weather to chill trees into dormancy."

Regarding her work on the farm and at the farmers' market, Sally says, "Direct marketing allows us to connect with the consumer and share our joy in growing a product they enjoy. We have tried to live a sustainable community life involving ourselves in the political issues that affect water supply and quality and protection of agricultural lands through land use policy."

SOIL: Yolo Loam is amended with vetch clover rich mix (organic) and synthetic fertilizers. They are currently working with California Agricultural Extension to find an alternative fertilizer that is acceptable under the organic rules.
