erin sweetPRODUCTS: Stone ground mixes made primarily out of corn and buckwheat (all mixes are gluten-free)

PEOPLE: Erin Sweet with one part-time employee.

ABOUT: Erin's dad is originally from southern Indiana, an area she describes as "truck farm country," where each town had a mill. She started Ridgecut Gristmills because she wanted to recreate the cornbread she ate as a child when visiting her dad's family. She also wanted to encourage the growth of more local corn in Yolo County. Erin purchased her mill in 2006

Erin set out make stoneground gluten-free products from the get go. Her stone has only ever been used to grind corn, buckwheat and rice.

SOURCING: All of Ridgecut's corn is #1 non-GMO food-grade and comes from local farms within 80 miles of the company's warehouse in Arbuckle, Ca. The buckwheat she uses is organic and US-grown. The rice she mills is California-grown Calrose medium- grain white. She also has plans to mill wheat from Massa Organics later this year.

FUN FACT: Unlike steel milling, stone grinding generates less heat in the milling process and that means more nutrients, vitamins, and minerals remain in the grains.
