Floating row covers protect the crops from pests. The cold nights and windy conditions, along with crop diversity and nearby wildlife habitat, also help keep pest populations low.
County Line is surrounded by pastureland, making chicken and cow manure easy to come by for composting. The farm also incorporates a fair amount of green plant material back into the soil. County Line is in full production year-round, but around 25% of the land is cover cropped at any given time.
Overhead irrigation from an on-farm reservoir.
Tractor cultivation, hand-weeding and gentle disking.
