Joyce Goldstein is a consultant to the restaurant and food industries with expertise in recipe development, menu design, and staff training. Previously, Goldstein was Chef and Owner of SQUARE ONE, a critically acclaimed Mediterranean restaurant here in San Francisco, for twelve years. She also worked as chef at the Café at Chez Panisse and was the founder and director of the California Street Cooking school, San Francisco’s first international cooking school. Her culinary achievements are unparalleled by most. Goldstein received the James Beard Award for Best Chef in California for 1993 and in 2005 was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from Women Chefs and Restauranteurs.
This is the debut of Joyce’s new book, Inside the California Food Revolution. In this authoritative and immensely readable insider’s account, chef Joyce Goldstein traces the development of California cuisine from its early years in the 1970s to the present, when farm-to-table, foraging, and fusion cuisine are part of the national vocabulary. She will be signing copies of the book after her demo.
All demos take place in the CUESA Classroom (under the white tents in front of the Ferry Building) at 11 am and are free to the public, with recipes and samples for all.
