New Year's resolution idea: volunteer for CUESA!
Your time and talents can make a big difference! Support local farms and sustainable food this year by volunteering with CUESA. Our programs and farmers' markets are made possible with the help of volunteers. If you feel at home in the kitchen, help out at one of our cooking demonstrations. If you love meeting people, spend some time at the information booth. Computers are more your thing? Contribute to the website or help organize our database. Or, if you’re eager to get the word out about sustainable agriculture, volunteer in the education department. To find out more, visit our website, stop by the farmers' market information booth, or email Ashleigh Collier at ashleigh@cuesa.org.
This week’s feature: New farm map launched!!
Have you ever wondered exactly where your food comes from? Have you ever wanted to know what the farm looks like? Is it near mountains, rivers, housing tracts? A new tool on the CUESA website answers these questions and more.
With the help of wonderful volunteers Bill Grimes and Ben Sigelman, we've created a map that uses satellite imagery to show where all of the farms in the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market are located.
VIEW OUR INTERACTIVE ONLINE MAP!
You can zoom in on the farms by choosing "see the farm up close" once you've clicked on the farm name. A few farms we recommend clicking on are:- Knoll Farms, to see a thriving polyculture in the middle of an area dominated by monoculture.
- Woodleaf Farm, to see stone fruit production in the Sierra foothills.
- Sciabica & Sons or Fairview Gardens, to see a farm surrounded completely by suburban sprawl.
Enjoy this new feature and please send any feedback about the map to Maggie Gosselin at maggie@cuesa.org.
